Animal Being is a body-based performance where individual freedom, resistance, ethical hiccups and longing for vitality within our interconnectedness are rolling through the space. An embodied self-reflective process wanders through our kinship with other animals to grow our sense of belonging and reveal wider matrices of connection to our allyship. Animal Being unravels and invites us to redreaming new narratives and connections while playing with authenticity and the phenomena of memory.

Jonna Lehto (FI) is an artist whose work fuses body-based activism and performance. Her artistic practise is based on physical expressions that spring from humour, wonder and the observation of life. In recent years she has focused on opening up new perspectives with different collaborative partners in the community, inclusive and performing arts projects. For the first chapter of the Animal Being project she has invited DJ Bráulio Bandeira aka Deepneue (DE), textile artist Moa Larsdotter Persson (DK) and visual artist Sofia Palillo (FI).

PIXELACHE HELSINKI FESTIVAL

Pixelache is a Transdisciplinary Platform for Emerging Art, Design, Research and Activism, organised by the non-profit association Piknik Frequency ry. It consists of an annual festival in Helsinki, as well as participatory art-science and technology productions, public events, educational programmes, residencies and other activities. Between 2021-2022, Pixelache will reach its 20th year anniversary, and Pixelache Helsinki Festival is currently one of the longest running cultural festivals in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region, that continues to promote emergent inter- and trans-disciplinary practices and thinking between art, design, technology, research and activism.
